Under Operation Lone Star which was launched in March, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has used the national guard and law enforcement officers to detain and transport migrants to the capital of the country, Washington, D.C. Now Mayor Muriel Bowser sent letters to the President Biden administration asking for help.

Bowser sent two letters stating she needs help with migrants that are entering the city. Governor Abbott and Arizona Governor Doug Ducey shipped migrants from their states to Washington, D.C.

Bowser wrote a letter to the U.S. Secretary of Defense on July 19 that said:

“The pace of the arriving buses and the volume of arrivals have reached tipping points. Our collective response and service efforts have now become overwhelmed.”

Nongovernmental organizations have helped 4,000 people that the governors sent to this and other cities on the East coast.

She wrote:

“The regional service center we helped establish in Montgomery County, Maryland is at capacity; our homeless services system is already under great strain; and tragically, many families arrive in Washington, DC with nowhere to go, or they remain in limbo seeking onward destinations across the United States.”
“With pledges from Texas and Arizona to continue these abhorrent operations indefinitely, the situation is dire, and we consider this a humanitarian crisis — one that could overwhelm our social support network without immediate and sustained federal intervention.”

As of Thursday, Mayor Bowser has not received a response from the Biden administration.

In response to this, Governor Abbott’s spokesperson Renae Eze said:

“President Biden’s open border policies have created an ongoing humanitarian crisis, with record-high illegal crossings and deadly drugs like fentanyl flooding into our state. … With our nation’s capital now experiencing a fraction of the disaster created by President Biden’s reckless open border policies that our state faces every single day, maybe he’ll finally do his job and secure the border.”

Will President Biden provide support to help Mayor Bowser?
