On Saturday, US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made a trip to Texas campaigning for two democratic candidates.

Democrat Ocasio-Cortez was in Texas to visit San Antonio and Austin to promote Jessica Cisneros and Greg Casar, also democratic candidates who were running for U.S. Congressional seats in their race.

Cisneros is running against Henry Cuellar in Texas 28th Congressional District which covers San Antonio. According to 23 Local, she ran against Cuellar previously in March 2020 primary and lost by four percentage points.

She is an immigration attorney trying to unseat Cuellar.

The attorney, now candidate said:

"I knew that I wanted to help families like my parents have their shot as well. It was because of a pro-bono attorney that helped my parents navigate that abhorrence of an immigration system. And is the reason why I'm in front of you all today."

Cuellar said that the election will not be swayed by “far-left celebrities” referring to Representative Ocasio-Cortez.

He released a statement saying:

"This election is taking place in the 28th Congressional District of Texas- not New York City.
The voters will decide this election not far left celebrities who stand for defunding the police, open borders, eliminating oil & gas jobs, and raising taxes on hard working Texans.
Members should take care of their own district before taking failed ideas to South Texas."

The Texas representative is facing scrutiny after the FBI raided his home in January. Cuellar has not faced any charges and claims his innocence.

The other race the Representative is supporting

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also visited San Antonio to throw her support to Greg Casar.

Casar is running for the 35th Congressional District which runs from Austin to San Antonio. He was the youngest person elected to the City Council in 2015 when he was elected at the age of 24.

He is running against Eddie Rodriguez, Carla-Joy Sisco, and Rebecca Viagran.

Ocasio-Cortez said:

"Here's what's exciting about Jessica's race and Greg's race, is that if we flip Texas, we flip the country...Texas turning blue is inevitable. The only question is when. We are going to fight for a living wage, we are going to make sure we unionize the hell out of this state... and we're going to make sure that not one dime is made exploitatively across any worker, especially the undocumented."
