Fundraising for his re-election
Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida has just launched his latest range of merchandise - on sale to raise funds for his re-election campaign - and he's clearly hoping to make it on to people's holiday shopping lists. His new range of products, pictures him as 'DeSanta' - the Governor who saved Christmas and kept Florida free!
Beer koozies and coffee mugs
Shoppers are being lured with a selection of holiday gifts for sale - the proceeds of which will help pay for his political campaigning. Who could resist a sweatshirt for $40, or a 'DeSanta Saves Christmas' coffee mug - a snip at $14.
There seems to be something for everyone - provided they're happy with a gift featuring an animated image of Gov. DeSantis that accredits him with keeping Christmas alive and Florida, open for business.
Keeping shipping open
The subtext of the merchandise is pretty obvious - that DeSantis credits himself with saving Christmas by keeping Florida's businesses open throughout the majority of 2020 and 2021 in spite of the impending threat of the pandemic. That, and his offer to suggestion that global shipping companies should divert container ships to Florida to help with the congestion at major ports in California and to keep supply chains open.
Meanwhile, further pressure may emerge that interferes with supply chain shortages and disrupts Florida's ability to remain open for business that even DeSantis cannot contend with. The new Omicron variant is now spreading around the globe at an alarming rate. It could prevent even Florida from staying open!
Gov. DeSantis clearly knows how to market merchandise that will appeal to those in his voting base.
Earlier this year his fundraising website launched for sale a boxed pair of golf balls, emblazoned with the text "Florida's Governor Has a Pair" on the box.
In July 2021 he also launched another merchandise range, featuring anti-vaccine slogans such as "Don't Fauci My Florida" on beer koozies and coffee mugs.
He may be divisive as a politician - some love him and some hate him. But few could argue that the Governor and his team are smart when it comes to marketing merchandise!
