Netflix announces Virgin River renewed for a 6th season

Netflix's hit series Virgin River has been already renewed for a 6th season even ahead of its 5th season premiere, which is expected this fall. The announcement was made at Netflix's first ever upfront presentations on Wednesday, but they have yet to announce a release date for season 5.

The stars Alexandra Breckenridge (This is Us, The Walking Dead), Martin Henderson (Grey's Anatomy, Big Sky) Annette O'Toole (Nash Bridges, Smallville) and Tim Matheson (The West Wing, Hart of Dixie) and follows Melinda Monroe, who answers an ad to work as a midwife and nurse practitioner in the remote Northern California town of Virgin River, thinking it will be the perfect place to start fresh and leave her painful memories behind. After Mel moves to Virgin River from Los Angeles, she soon discovers that small-town living isn't quite as simple as she expected.

Virgin River premiered on Netflix on December 6th, 2019, and is based on the bestselling book series by Robyn Carr. The show has been among Netflix’s most successful series. Its fourth season amassed 277 million hours viewed in its first 28 days, which was on par with Season 3, It held the top spot in Netflix's Top 10 for 2 weeks. Overall, Virgin River has been in Netflix's Global Top 10 for 10 weeks in more than 70 countries, in its four seasons to date, according to Yahoo. Season 4 debuted at Number 1 on the Nielsen weekly Top 10 streaming chart and was viewed for 2.6 billion minutes in its first three days of availability.
