Harrison Ford receives standing ovation at Cannes for Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival on Thursday where actor Harrison Ford received a 5-minute standing ovation. Ford was presented with an honorary Palme d'Or, the festival's highest prize for his lifetime achievements in the film industry. The 80-year-old was seen getting emotional while a reel of his past performances were shown on a big screen in the Grand Théâtre Lumière.

Ford said, "My life has been enabled by my lovely wife, who has supported my passions and my dreams and I'm grateful. And you know, I love you too. You've given my life purpose and meaning and I'm grateful for that, so grateful." Ford speaking about his wife of 12 years, actress Calista Flockhart.

Ford continued, "They say when you’re about to die, you see your life flash before your eyes, and I just saw my life flash before my eyes. I’m very moved by this. I’m so grateful to be able to work with artists like Jim, Phoebe, Mads, and I’m deeply moved by this honor. But I got a movie you ought to see. It’s right behind me. So let me get out of the way and thank you again for this.”

This is the 5th and final Indiana Jones film for Ford, who first stepped into the role in 1981 in Raiders of the Lost Ark, proceeded by The Temple of Doom in 1984, The Last Crusade in 1989, and Crystal Skull in 2008.

The Dial of Destiny also stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge stars as Indiana Jones’ goddaughter who brings the archeologist out of retirement. The film is rated PG-13 and will be theatrically released in the United States on June 30th, 2023.
