Baton Rouge Restaurant Week is back this week

Restaurant Week is back this week in Baton Rouge and there are over 20 different area restaurants participating. Restaurant week runs from Monday, January 23rd through Friday, January 28th and is sponsored by Eat BR.

Every time you post on Instagram with the hashtag #EatBR during Restaurant Week, a $2 donation will be made to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. The GBRFB was founded in 1984 and its mission is to feed the hungry in Baton Rouge and the surrounding parishes by providing food and educational outreach through faith-based and other community partners.

According to Visit Baton Rouge's website, 'This week-long culinary event, typically held in both the winter and the summer, allows restaurant-goers to enjoy prix-fixe menu items at some of Baton Rouge's best restaurants. Whether you choose to stick to an old favorite or try something new, the Restaurant Week deals are sure to be tough to beat. You can enjoy three-course meals at a price point ranging from $15 to $45, with meal courses typically consisting of an appetizer, entree and dessert. The options are endless, and restaurants are sure to fill up fast, so make sure to check it out and reserve a spot. Don't forget to ask for the Restaurant Week menu!'

Grilled Huli Huli Chicken

Huli Huli chicken is a delicious and tender chicken dish that originated in the 1950's in Hawaii when the chicken was cooked over a pit, inheriting the name Huli Huli which means or “turn turn.” The chicken gets marinated all day in a sweet Hawaiian BBQ sauce which is made up of ketchup, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, soy sauce and sherry. The chicken then gets cooked on a grill to perfection, making it the some of the juiciest, mouthwatering dishes you will ever have. It is great to serve alone with a side dish or over rice or pasta. Huli-Huli chicken was trademarked in 1967 by Ernest Morgado, a naval intelligence officer and Mike Asagi, a chicken farmer who together founded the Pacific Poultry Company. In 1986, Morgado bottled and sold Huli Huli marinade sauce nationally, but you can make Huli Huli chicken at home with this simple and easy recipe.

LSU Tigers advance to the Final Four for the first time in 15 years

The 3rd ranked LSU Lady Tigers defeated the 9th ranked Miami Hurricanes, 55-42 on Sunday night at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina. Guard Alexis Morris led the Tigers with 21 points and 4 steals to move them forward to the Final Four, for the first time in 15 years. They will face the winner of the Virginia Tech vs. Ohio State game, which takes place tonight at 8 pm CT.

Cajun Jambalaya, a Louisiana original

I previously did a piece about Creole jambalaya and what the differences are between the Creole and Cajun versions. While both originated in my home state of Louisiana, Creole (red) jambalaya differs from Cajun (brown) jambalaya because it is made with tomatoes but both versions are made with smoked sausage or chicken and shrimp.
