For more than 100 years, Boudin Bakery has supplied Bay Area residents with amazing sourdough bread. The bakery sold bread to miners during the gold rush. It was there during the 1906 earthquake that devastated downtown San Francisco. And it’s still here today, selling the same exact bread (and much else besides).
One of the coolest new developments at Boudin (or new relative to its long and storied history, anyway) is the Bay Area company’s Loyalty Rewards program. If you join the program and then visit a Boudin Bakery and make a purchase, they’ll reward you with a free loaf of sourdough bread.
This isn’t a little bag of dinner rolls or a tiny, sample loaf, either. You get a full loaf of their amazing, historic sourdough. You can even get them to slice it for you. It’s wrapped up in a bag, and for me at least, it supplies my bread needs for as long as a week.
How to Use Your Bread
My favorite way to eat my free monthly loaf from Boudin is to have them slice it for me, and then lightly toast a slice at a time. I’ll drizzle it with some olive oil (preferably something fancy and local, but really any oil will do) and then sprinkle it with a bit of salt. It’s the perfect, simple snack or side dish. You can use butter, too. That’s tasty, albeit perhaps not as healthy.
