Olivette Lyvonia Turner, known as "Olli" to family and friends, is a Nashville, Tennessee mother of a daughter.
Olivette told her family in Nashville that she was going to go see an aunt in Pennsylvania. She spoke with her sister on May 1, 1989, around 5:00 pm, who she was supposed to visit later the same day, the Charley Project reports. Olivette never showed up.
“She had made mention about going up to Pennsylvania to either visit or live with an aunt,” Detective Matthew Filter with Metro Nashville Police Department’s Cold Case Homicide Missing Persons Unit told WKRN.
The last time anyone saw her was on May 1, 1989.
When her family failed to hear from her, the aunt advised Olivette never showed up at her home and that she was not aware of a planned visit from Olivette, the FBI reports.
Her sister reported Olivette missing on May 17, 1989.
“She has a daughter that she left behind, which kind of makes us feel as though something probably bad happened to her,” Detective Matthew Filter told WKRN. “It’s hard to believe that a mother would just leave a young child behind.”
Olivette was known to frequent truck stops and hitchhike with truckers. This choice of transportation may have led to her disappearance, as her family has said that Olivette would never walk away from her then young daughter.
“She didn’t have a vehicle or any mode to travel. She was known to utilize truck drivers and hitch hike her way to various locations.” Detective Matthew Filter told WKRN. “There’s always the possibility that she got into the truck with the wrong person.”
Her family has remained in contact with the Nashville Police Department over the years, hoping for answers.
