25-year-old Latoya Grissom lived with her two children and her grandmother, Dorothy Grissom, on Allen Lane at the Sunset Apartments in Texarkana, Texas. On September 4, 2007, LaToya left the apartment around 3:30 pm, carrying her pink and white purse, and told her family she would be right back, reports the Texarkana Gazette. She left with someone in a small dark-colored car.
“She said she’d be coming back. The baby wanted to go with her, he was crying. She said she was gonna come back and get him. She never returned," Dorothy Grissom said, reports KETV.
Latoya never returned. Her family reported her missing after several days without any contact from her.
“No matter what happened, she always kept in touch with her family,” said Dorothy Grissom, reports KETV.
She has never been seen or heard from again.
At the time of her disappearance, LaToya was in a relationship with Brandon Holmes. Brandon is not considered a suspect in LaToya's case.
"Anybody who knows her is going to be drawn to her. She would give you the shirt off her back, even people who didn't deserve her kindness. She was kind to them," Brandon told KTBS.
Brandon believes someone close to LaToya knows what happened to her.
"I think they're close though, I hope they are anyway. With the little information I gave, I hope they get close. I hope they catch whoever did or find out wherever she's at, you know," Brandon told KTBS.
In October 2010, Latoya's purse, and other belongings, were found beside a creek in Texarkana. The items were discovered by utility workers, three years after her disappearance. Investigators conducted a search of the area, but LaToya was not located.
"She couldn't have done nothing that bad, that someone would want to do her like that. My life hasn't been the same," her mother, Jackie Grissom, told KTBS.
