Christopher Thompkins lived with his mother, Ann McKenzie, in Ellerslie, Georgia. Ellerslie is a small community located in Harris County, Georgia. His mother, Ann, had a friend who owned a surveying company. 20-year-old Christopher got a job working for them. On January 25, 2002, Christopher left his home around 8:10 am. He drove to work and left his car at the office. He rode to the worksite with a co-worker. He went to work with a four-man crew in a wooded area on Highway 85.
After lunch, around 1:30 pm, the four-man crew was walking on Highway 85 near Warm Springs Road and County Line Road. Christopher was walking at the rear of the group of men, who were about 50 feet apart. According to the Doe Network, one of the crew members glanced away for a moment, and when he glanced back, Christopher was gone. The man said Christopher just "disappeared", the Doe Network reports.
The survey company owner called Ann, Christopher's mother, around 4:15 pm. The pair contacted the local sheriff's office, but the sheriff's department told them they had to wait 24 hours before filing a missing person report on Christopher, according to Georgia Mysteries.
His family gathered some volunteers and searched the area where Christopher vanished. They found pieces of his clothing stuck on a barbed-wired fence, a boot that belonged to Christopher, his work tools, and 12 cents. According to the Doe Network, Christopher's mother, Ann, felt these findings were inconsistent with the story his boss and co-workers gave of his disappearance. Seven months after his disappearance, in July 2002, a property owner off Highway 85 located the other boot belonging to Christopher. He has never been found. No charges have been filed
Christopher Carlton Thompkins is 5'7" and weighed 124 pounds when he vanished. He was wearing a black shirt, blue and gray plaid jacket with a gray hood, navy "Dickies" work pants, a black watch, tan "FUBU" work boots, and a black skull cap.
