The media love to claim Americans are against him, but there is just no denying Donald Trump’s continuing popularity – and not only with Republicans
As we’ve published in other post-mid-term articles, such as: The True Mark of a ‘Red Wave’ and What That Means Going Forward – Our Interview with Professor Dorian Lassiter, and Despite What the Media Would Have You Believe, This Election Has Been a Red Wave, The true mark of what would establish these most recent mid-term election gains by the Republican party as a ‘red wave’ cannot be determined by comparing the number of seats wins with those of previous or ‘historical’ mid-term elections.
The reasons for this are examined far more closely in the articles referenced above, but for now, suffice it to say that the primary reason why that method of comparison is seriously flawed is because elections, like coin flips, are completely independent events, and have nothing to do with one another.
These are called ‘zero-sum games’ because one side can’t make any gains without the other side losing an exactly proportionate amount.
That being established, when we forget about the fictionally constructed guesses the media presented which were disseminated to the public prior to the elections as if they were all but assurances that past performances were indicative of future performance, we can easily see that the net result of GOP gains in these elections was a lot more momentous then the aforementioned media outlets would have us believe.
Of course, the most significant of those gains is the Republican takeover of the House of Representatives, which systematically also functions to remove current House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi from power.
It’s no secret that she was one of former president Trump’s biggest antagonists. This is evidenced by her comments and actions regarding Trump throughout his presidency. Most of us remember her unprecedented tearing up of Trump’s State of the Union speech, the two impeachment allegations she insisted be brought against the former president, and the frequent comments calling then President Trump an ‘illegitimate’ president.
Add to this that Pelosi was also third in the line of succession to be President, and there is no denying the enormity of the victory in defeating her party and forcing her to settle for the minimalistic role of House Minority Leader, or to step down from her leadership position, once the 118th Congress sits for the first time in January of 2023.
Further, if there is anything we’ve learned from these most recent mid-term elections, it’s that, like it or not, the former president still has a substantial following of loyal American voters. This is only further evidenced by the latest Harvard/ Harris poll which asked its respondents which Republican candidate they would support as the GOP Frontrunner to take on Joe Boden, Kamala Harris, or any other Democratic candidate for the 2024 Presidential election.
The poll is intriguing and, as always, should be read in its entirety. But perhaps the most critical aspect of the poll, at least for the purposes of this article, is that 46% of the respondents polled declared that they favored former President Donald Trump as the 2024 GOP candidate for president, while 28% chose Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, 7% chose Donald Trump’s former vice president Mike Pence, 3% selected Texas Senator Ted Cruz, and several other potential candidates, none of which received more than 2% of the vote.
Of course, no poll or ‘expert’ can accurately predict the outcome of future elections or even primaries for that matter. However, it doesn’t take a fortune teller to know that now that the former President has officially announced his bid for re-election in 2024, he will be a formidable challenger for any Republican candidate who decides to primary against him.
