When the heat is really searing during the day, it can be hard to find something fun to do with friends and family. While the rest of the nation seems to be enjoying the outdoors during summer, we often find ourselves cooped up inside while the heat rages on. Luckily, as temperatures cool off in the evenings, there are a few fun things left to do that can help us get out of the house.

The Oro Valley Parks and Recreation team has put together a once a month movie night on the lawn. They have had this event live for a few months and this month, enjoy Sonic the Hedgehog for free. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to the Oro Valley Recreation Center on Saturday, July 24th for the 7:30 pm showing of the children's movie. This family friendly event is free to the public, with the Parks and Recreation Department requesting everyone who attends maintains social distancing of six feet from other event attendees.

The Recreation Center can be found at 10555 N La Canada Drive, Oro Valley. This event is happening through the rest of the summer on the fourth Saturday of the month. You don't need to pre-register to attend. Just bring your snacks, blankets, chairs and make yourself comfortable for the show.

Future movies include August's showing of Call Of The Wild, and September will be Raya And The Last Dragon. While these are primarily children's movies, this makes for a great night out of the house. The movies are shown on an inflatable screen, and outdoors as the sun goes down. This could make for a great date idea for teens looking for wholesome fun, or just as a way to spend some nice time outdoors without too much heat.

So if any of these movies are on the list, mark your calendars and be ready for future outdoor movie times. Each of these events will start at 7:30 pm and go to about 10 pm, depending on how long the movies run. Grab the neighbors, your kids, or just some friends and enjoy these outdoor movies put on by the Oro Valley Parks and Recreation Department.
