As the world begins to open back up, it may be time to refresh your wardrobe. I acquired approximately 804 pairs of sweatpants in 2020, so I know my closet certainly needs some upgrades. Instead of shopping the same chain stores, here are a few unique boutiques around Tucson that are worth a look! These stores are perfect if you want to stand out, look cute, and support local businesses.
For a mixture of vintage, locally crafted, and specialty clothing Avenue is right up your.. avenue. This shop has housewares, women's apparel, jewelry, and other unique items to add some texture to your life. The vibe is very curated, modern, without being too stuffy or serious. The apparel is very desert-appropriate with a lot of lightweight fabrics and generous fits. The prices are mid-range to high-end, but the items they carry are high quality and well curated.
If you're in the mood for a whimsical, fresh store to peruse, Bon Tucson is a spot for you. Owned by a mother and daughter duo, they carry seasonal fashions and fun housewares to match the season. They carry women's apparel, textiles for the home, and even have wonderful art pieces to add a touch of color to your walls. I love the entire vibe Bon carries. It's very light, smart, and happy, without being too trendy or out there. You're sure to find your next favorite thing at Bon. The prices at Bon do tend to run higher for the apparel, but they are certainly high quality and beautiful design.
I love handmade pieces. There is just something so special about the care and work that you can feel goes into the piece. At Mast, the owners are making the jewelry and leather goods themselves. The jewelry has southwest vibes and some very unique designs. The leather goods are simple and tasteful. They have a faux-crocodile bucket back that I'm lusting hard after. The prices run a little on the higher end, but what you're getting for that is a brilliantly handcrafted piece that you'll cherish for years to come.
One thing Tucson does well is recycling fashion. There is a second-hand clothing shop in almost every shopping center I drive by (okay, that might be an exaggeration). If you're looking for second-hand designer pieces, Desert Vintage has some amazing finds. They carry vintage Chanel, YSL, Lanvin, and more. They sell some of the items on their website but also catch amazing finds on their Instagram page. Obviously, the prices reflect the incredibly unique and vintage item's value. Even if you're just looking, this is a great spot to check out.
If runway designer is not quite your style, W Boutique carries a more casual collection of mid-range designer pieces. With apparel that fits a more laid-back lifestyle, this boutique has some really fun pieces. It has the same mood as the contemporary casual section at Nordstrom's, in my opinion. They carry some excellent housewares also. Check their Instagram page out for a good idea of their new arrivals. The prices sit in on the higher-end for casual wear, but the brands they carry are hard to find in Tucson.
Some people forget that Tucson is very much a college town. For those looking to shop for a more youthful look at a more budget friendly spot, Collette Clothing is the place. Along with its sister store Boutique816, you can find sexy, youthful, bold designs that don't break the bank. Think crop tops, flirty dresses, and distressed jeans. They carry some really fun styles that throwback to the '90s. If I were college age, this would be such a fun store to hit up before a fun weekend with the girls (you know, post-pandemic).
