Yes, 2020 was a bit of a dumpster fire. That is not up for debate. While the world went on lockdown, skincare became a big thing. We weren’t wearing makeup anywhere, but we collectively leaned into self-care and skincare. Even with the many lockdowns, a few brands found it within themselves to launch some great skincare products. Here’s a round-up of the best skincare launches of 2020!

Farmacy Beauty is one of the more unique skincare brands on the market. They have honey and anti-oxidant rich skincare ingredients that help hydrate, smooth, resurface, and renew. In 2020 they launched the ceramide-rich Honey Halo moisturizer. It’s a thick, ultra-hydrating moisturizer that helps lock hydration into the skin without causing irritation or breakouts. This one is particularly fabulous because it has shea butter, which smells incredible and really hydrates deep into the skin.

Regardless of age, breakouts suck. I think we can all agree that getting rid of blemishes as quickly as possible is the goal. This serum combines heavy-hitters Salicylic Acid and Niacinamide to help clear and prevent breakouts. It also has Vitamin C, which helps keep scarring and discoloration at bay. The reviews say it all. This works fast, lessens the appearance of acne scarring, and helps keep skin clear.

One of my personal favorite launches this year is the Glow Recipe Papaya Cleansing Balm. This stuff is seriously amazing. If you’ve never tried a cleansing balm before, it is like a pre-wash. You put it on dry skin and work it in and it removes the top layer of makeup and oil from your skin. Then you go in with a gentle cleanser to get those pores cleaned out.
This cleansing balm has papaya enzymes which help remove dead skin, so it cleanses and helps reveal brighter, younger-looking skin. Despite the enzymes, it doesn’t hurt the eyes or sting the face to use. I love the texture of this one. It’s creamy and soft and rinses off without any residue.

An influencer’s favorite brand, Summer Fridays is a newer skincare brand that is packing some major punch this year. They started out with a duo of face masks and expanded their range in 2020. The big launch that excited the skincare crowd is their exfoliating solution. This is meant to compete with the cult-favorite Paula’s Choice Exfoliating Treatment. This has lactic acid, glycolic acid, and niacinamide all together to remove dead skin and reveal glowing, fresh skin underneath. Use this at night and wake up with a refreshed visage. A great call-out on this one is that it does not contain any alcohols, so it won’t irritate or dry the skin out while it’s working its exfoliation magic.

While the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is not a new product, the Gummy Bear flavor is the newest iteration of the cult-favorite. The Lip Sleeping Mask is essentially a super thick lip balm that you pack on at night. I always use this before bed, and I don’t wake up with cracked, dry lips anymore. It protects your lips while you sleep from drying out, while continually hydrating with hyaluronic acid and vitamin ingredients. If the thought of gummy bears doesn’t seem appealing to you, this mask comes in a few other flavors. You can grab it in vanilla, lemon, mint chocolate, sweet candy, and more. (Also this makes a great stocking stuffer for you gift procrastinators!)

If you were in hiding all year (no one can blame you) then you missed one of the best skincare launches in a long time. The very fabulous Rihanna released her Fenty Skin line. The initial launch had a cleanser, toner-serum, sunscreen, and later an over-night cream. These four products were all the rage in the skincare community and starting December 26th, they’ll be available at Sephora, just in time to use that new gift card you got for Christmas.
These products are vegan, gluten-free, and full of non-irritating ingredients. Many also praised this line for the sunscreen that caters to all skin-tones. Often darker skin tones have a white-cast leftover from sunscreens. This sunscreen blends in nicely and keeps your skin from taking on sun damage. A win-win!

While mask acne was running amok, I was trying literally everything to keep it at bay. Then Bliss dropped their Clear Genius line. This Clarifying Toner + Serum is everything. It comes in great packaging that you pump a little serum out onto a cotton ball, sweep it over your face, and go. It cleared up my maskne in just a few days and keeps it away.
The ingredients are the best part. They threw Salicylic Acid, Niacinamide, Zinc, Cica, and Witch Hazel Water together to bring out the clearest, least irritated skin ever. As someone who is trying to get pregnant, I’m trying to avoid phthalates, and this is free of parabens, phthalates, SLS, and SLEs, which can all be endocrine disrupters. Sorry for the science lesson, but this formula is amazing.

Many people with dry skin suffer from a condition called keratosis pilaris (KP), which is little bumps on the skin that feel rough. A brand new launch from Dr. Dennis Gross aims to combat this condition with the newly launched Exfoliating Body Treatment. This is a towelette that you use on your arms, legs, body (essentially anywhere buy your face) and it exfoliates the skin to help increase cell turnover and slough off dead skin. This is the same brand that brought you the Alpha Beta Facial Radiance treatments, which are beloved by many. This is just a bit more potent version of those. It has Glycolic and Lactic acids to help refresh and exfoliate the skin. These just launched this month, so many are very excited to try these out this winter.
There were plenty more great launches this year, and next year is looking like it’s going to be full of more great launches.
