Proposed rezoning for a Guilford county school draws anger and concern from Kernersville residents

The Planking Traveler

As a Kernersville resident that lives near the South Bunker Hill/Boylston Road area involved in the proposed rezoning, I am concerned for the future of our neighborhood if the almost 34 acre K-8 school site is approved. One of the things we love most about Kernersville is its close proximity to everything while still maintaining a peaceful and and secluded feel to it. We often see deer in our back yard and we appreciate not getting stuck in traffic jams like we have in previous larger cities. We don't hear much noise and would like to keep it that way.

Thinking about the implications of the proposed rezoning, I picture cars backed up onto Macy Grove Road, more accidents especially on the Boylston road sharp curve, a lot more noise, and our wildlife being displaced. The area they're looking at cannot support the type of traffic that this school would bring in, not to mention how it could cause safety issues by blocking those needing to access our local hospital which is in relatively close proximity to where the school would be.

We already have the FedEx hub and Amazon warehouse nearby, so adding school traffic to all the delivery vehicles sounds like a recipe for frustration and gridlock. I'm thankful that Guilford County Commissioner James Upchurch has vowed to fight against this plan and I plan to send him a thank you note as an encouragement to continue advocating for our local community. In speaking to my neighbors, they're all opposed to the idea as well, but are worried that their opinions will not be taken into account and that the City of High Point will succeed in bulldozing their way into our quiet community.

ATTENTION COLFAX AREA RESIDENTS

If you travel on or live near Boylston Road, South Bunker Hill Road, Adkins Road, Lakeland Road, or Macy Grove Road you can expect gridlock and traffic jams in your future. Guilford County Schools is requesting that the City of High Point rezone and annex multiple rural residential properties for a proposed K-8 public school.  It would be a

34 acre site on the land adjoining South Bunker Hill & Boylston Roads. The rezoning request will not limit this site to school use only. They want community medical clinics, sports and more to keep the site going "24/7". For visualization purposes, the site is larger than the site of Walmart Super Center & Sam's Club on Wendover Avenue.
