TREX Cinema to offer sensory friendly films in honor of Autism Awareness Month

The TREX Cinema plans to offer sensory friendly films which means they will have special showings of films with the lights up and the sound lowered without previews to accommodate families that would love to be able to attend a movie and have a safe space where their children are welcomed to be themselves! Dancing, singing, giggling, and even crying will be welcomed. The Trexlers noted that as a large family with lots of small children, they understand that every child deserves the chance to experience the magic of the movies without being shamed for making noise. I'm not aware of anywhere else in the Triad that offers sensory friendly movies, so this is a welcome and much needed chance for neurodivergent individuals to enjoy films.

TREX Cinema will be opening on May 11th in the old Countryside Cinema location (755 Cinema Cr Kernersville) with 3 movies - Guardians of Galaxy volume 3, Book Club - The Next Chapter, and Super Mario Bros. They are have been holding open interviews in recent weeks and should have their prices released soon. They're running a giveaway on their Facebook page if you want to enter and help to spread the word about the cinema!

Longtime Kernersville residents have been eagerly awaiting someone to renovate this space and reopen a cinema for the town, and thankfully the Trexler family has stepped up to the plate to do just that. This has been no small task, as the location has been in a state of disrepair for years and has needed a lot of TLC to be able to restore its dilapidated interior to something that is fit to welcome the public back again.

A little about the family: The seven of us grew up with our parents owning movie theaters, and we are so excited to be on this journey as a family. Our parents Don and Kathy instilled a huge love of going to the movies in us from a young age. As a large family we know how valuable family time is, and we are so excited to get to join the community with a safe, clean, family-friendly cinema! We are working on the theater and can’t wait for your families to make great memories with ours!

Next Step Thrift Store: A Helping Hand for Domestic Violence Victims

Are you a bargain hunter looking to save money on clothing, household items, toys, shoes and more while also supporting a worthwhile cause? Next Step Thrift Store in Kernersville has incredibly reasonable prices (lower than Goodwill in my experience) and a huge variety of items to choose from. When I was pregnant, I found most of my maternity clothes at their store and was also able to save a lot of money on baby items by shopping their Thursday sales each week. On Thursdays, shoes, clothes and purses are 50% off, and on the last Thursday of each month, the entire store is half off! They also offer a rewards program where you earn a few cents off each time you make a purchase, so you can build up discounts that way as well.
