Orlando History Part 1: From Jernigan to Orlando

This episode of the Orlando Guy is the beginning of a six part series that tells the history of Orlando, Florida. The town was once known as Jernigan, named after Aaron Jernigan who is believed to be the first American to settle in what is now Orange County, Florida. A town developed named after Jernigan, but was renamed to Orlando for reasons that are not clear. This episode covers the years from 1843 to 1857. Acknowledgement The Orlando Guy acknowledges the exhaustive work of Joy Wallace Dickinson (Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/JoyWDickinson/), Orlando historian and author of "Orlando City of Dreams" (Purchase: https://www.amazon.com/Orlando-City-Dreams-Making-America/dp/0738524425), which served as the foundational research and blueprint for this episode.
