The cease-fire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza continued on Tuesday to the fifth day.
Hamas released 12 hostages and Israel turned over 30 Palestinian prisoners in the first wave, after that Hamas released 10 Israelis and two Thai nationals.
srael has announced its plans to resume its ground campaign into south Gaza once the cease-fire – already extended twice – is lifted, but President Joe Biden said that any resumption of military action by Israel must be done to not cause any “significant further displacement of civilians.”
Separating combatants from civilians has not been easy, because Israel claims that the Hamas militants have sought sanctuary in densely-populated areas of the Gaza strip.
However, some independent observers have urged Israel to use “greater precision” to strike military targets.

Koch Bros. endorse Nikki Haley
Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has won the endorsement of a political network created by the billionaire Koch brothers – Charles and David – for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
Americans for Prosperity Action is backing Haley as a counter to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as the chief rival to former president Donald Trump, who tops the polling.
However, recent polls show DeSantis’ numbers falling, while Haley is rising. She has strong conservative credentials but has been critical of some of Trump’s actions and comments.
Sports: Goodbye to A’s, hello B’s
Burned by the planned departure of the Oakland A’s (actually, the Athletics) to Las Vegas soon, local boosters and fans are planning to launch a new baseball operation.
To be called the Oakland B’s (complete with familiar color schemes and typography), the team will be independent of major league connections and play in the Pioneer League.
The team plans to begin play in the spring of 2024 at Laney College, a community college in Oakland.
