Stone Mountain GA- Kelvin Dickerson,59 came home from a 3 month stay in a local medical facility to learn his utilities had been disconnected due to non-payment and facing eviction from his apartment. And his bank account with a zero balance.

Dickerson is one of thousands of people who have become a victim of fraud by criminals using digital payment services such as Cash App, Zelle and Venmo with very little recourse or chance of recovering lost cash.

Kelvin Dickerson said his bank account was drained by a trusted person by transferring money from his checking account and deposited into a cash app account of a person unknown to him.

"This is devastating to me, all my money gone, being evicted ,my lights, off, my car gone and because someone stole from me while I was sick and trusting them to manage my finances when I could not", Dickson said. " He did not use a cent of my money to pay my bills and left me just days from being homeless with Covid", he went on to say.

Digital money transfer and payment system does not offer fraud protection credit cards and debit cards issued by a bank.

Warnings within the cash app encourages guarding your personal information and requiring a pin number to complete transfer from your bank account and to another cash app account.

According to Cash app, all accounts are monitored for potentially fraudulent transactions and cancel completed transactions suspected to be fraud and return your money to your card.

A GoFundMe has been started to help Kelvin Dickerson http;//gofund.me/153bfd9c avoid being removed from his home.

Kelvin Dickerson said he reported the fraud to police but do not believe he will ever see a dime of his money even if his former friend is charged with the fraud.

According to law enforcement officials fraud is all but impossible when a person has been granted access to the account. It becomes one word against another which may not be enough in court said a Fulton County Detective who declined to be named.

Cash app warn to double check who you send money to to ensure you do not lose your money. cash app will assist you in requesting a refund from the person receiving the money, however Cash App will not refund your money.
