5 Amazing Ways To Stay Fit When You Hate Running

I dislike running. Like if my life depended on it, I would probably die in a few seconds instead of trying to run. I am horrible when it comes to running and I truly don't enjoy the process of it.

I've always known that running isn't the best activity for me but when I participated in Pink Run last year and had to practice running every other day for few months and then run 5km during the event, I came to terms that I'll never be one of those people who enjoyed running for their free time.

Running is officially off my list of things that I do to keep myself active and in good health.

So, instead of torturing myself with running, I do other activities and chose other ways to keep myself in shape healthy. If you're like me and can't stand running or want to try different activities, you're about to find out what you can do instead to keep yourself in good form.

First of all, I'd like to note that doing at least 30 minutes of exercise a day is very important for your body and overall health. It doesn't matter what you do as long as it is a physical activity that requires a bit of your energy.

Also, a bit of exercise will not only make your body stronger, but it will also help to de-stress and clear your mind. So, it's a win-win situation.

Now, let's take a look at those 5 ways that can help you stay active!

Hiking, trekking

Hiking is a wonderful way of staying active and keeping your body and mind in shape. Plus, you get to see a lot of beautiful landscapes, views and take quite a nice number of photos if that's your thing.

This year I went to Slovakia where I went hiking almost every single day in the mountains. I'm not going to lie that I didn't go out of breath a few times but the view from the peaks was simply amazing and very rewarding.

Also, a few months ago I participated in a trekking challenge where I trekked 50km in a day. Fantastic experience and a great challenge for yourself.

Try a bit of hiking in the warmer seasons and trekking challenges all year round. You can start by a simple 12km and then train for longer distances.


Dancing is a perfect exercise if you love music and want to get your body moving a bit. It tests your flexibility, strengthens your muscles and gives you a nice release from everything that is going on in your life or mind.

The best thing about dancing is that there are many styles to choose from like street dances, contemporary, line dances, pair dances and so on. You can find a style for yourself no matter who you are.

It's never too late to start dancing. So, no matter how old you are and in what condition your body is, you can dance and get some exercise by doing that.

If you don't want to enrol in classes, you can dance by watching dance workouts on YouTube. It's the 21st century, folks, you don't even need to go out of your house to get a professional dance session.


This is kind of light version of being active but it's vital daily exercise.

Whenever I'm going, I try my best to walk as much as I can instead of using public transport or a car. I know that some people are super busy and don't have the time, if you don't, you should try to get a quality treadmill for walking so that you are getting at least some exercise from the comfort of your home.

For example, when I go to university, I go by bus from my house to the city centre (I live outside of the city) and then go on foot from there to my university. It's around 30 minutes walk.

Also, I take random walks around the city throughout the day. When I meet up with my friends, we usually walk somewhere and talk instead of sitting somewhere. Sometimes we manage to walk 13km in a day without any struggle.

Walking is something like my hobby and I really don't like when people say that they don't like walking and would rather go one stop by bus than walk those 500 meters.

If you want to give your body a little bit of exercise, try walking more instead of using transport. Use devices such as Fitbit or apps that track your steps and make a goal to reach a certain number of steps each day.

Walking isn't a tough task, and those 6000 steps in a day can make a huge difference to your overall health condition.

The simplest way of staying active and getting some exercise is just having a mini-workout. You can either go to the gym or have a workout yourself at home. There are plenty of resources online and I'm sure all of us know how to do a bit of googling or scrolling on Pinterest.

I myself am not a fan of workouts, especially gyms. I rather do a 50km hike than spend 30minutes doing sit-ups, crunches and all that jazz. But I have friends who adore gyms and workouts, so no bad vibes towards you, gym lovers.

I used to do a bit of yoga and daily mini workouts in the evenings by myself but I don't do it often. In fact, I have a history of almost passing out from even the lightest workouts (don't even know how myself, so don't ask), so I think it's a sign from above that workouts and I don't work well together.

But if that's what floats your boat, please do not hesitate to include few workouts in your week and get that body moving.


For all of you who want to stay active and do something fun at the same time, you need to try bicycling. It's a wonderful way of strengthening your lower body and getting to places.

If I want to go to an outdoor concert or event in my city, I take a bicycle to get there. This way I get a bit of exercise and reach my destination quite fast. Also, you can use a bicycle to get to your workplace or university every single day.

If that's not enough, by using a bicycle instead of a car you'll be part of a safer and greener environment.

Now that I've given you quite a few ideas of how to get your body moving, you have no excuse now to not get a bit of exercise today.
