Kayaking Accident Claims Life in Potomac River; Kayak Caught Under Rock

A young woman tragically died in a kayaking accident on the Potomac River in Montgomery County, part of an out-of-state college group of 24 people. Her kayak got trapped under a rock in the strong current, causing dangerous water conditions. Despite receiving immediate assistance from other kayakers and onlookers, she did not survive.

Rocks in the river can create hazardous conditions as the water vacuum forming over them is a common hazard. The accident happened Sunday afternoon near the Montgomery County/D.C. border during the group's kayaking trip. The name of the deceased has not been released, while the Metropolitan Police Department and the local police are still investigating.
