The Westbrook, Maine, police department was called around 2:00 p.m. to a Church Street residence on Friday, November 24, 2023, for a report of people trespassing on the homeowner's property by putting up a tent in the basement of the house.

When the officers arrived to investigate, they found that there were two people—a male and a female—in the basement of the house and that they were refusing to leave. The officers were eventually able to get them to leave, but then the two tried to get back into the house. The two were then obstructing the roadway, and as the officers tried to arrest them, the male suspect started fighting with the officers, punching one officer in the face and biting another officer. Officers were able to take both of the suspects into custody.

The suspects Damian Green, age 37 of Westbrook was charged with:

  • Two counts of assault on an officer
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Refusing to submit to arrest
  • Criminal mischief
  • Aggravated criminal trespass
  • Obstructing a public way
  • Failure to provide name and date of birth

The female suspect Rachel Palange, a 26 year old transient, was arrested and charged with:

  • Disorderly conduct
  • Obstructing government administration
  • Unlawful possession of scheduled drugs
  • Violation of conditions of release

The two were taken to the Cumberland County Jail. The Westbrook Police officers were looked at by EMS on the scene but did not require being transported to the hospital.
