With the current annual U.S. inflation rate at 8.5% and grocery prices rising, having the option to save some money when buying groceries is something shoppers will be happy to do. Luckily for Penobscot County, that idea has become a reality with the opening of a new business in Newport. Tipped Trailer Co., a mobile trailer outlet grocery store, just opened on August 31st.

Tipped Trailer Co. is a clean and well-organized woman-owned business offering discounted groceries with items that rotate weekly and are all first come, first served. Anything you would find in a grocery store you might see here. The store was recently offering a package of Pampers brand diapers for $6.99.

Items can be sold at a discount because the owner, Rachael Gosnell, gets the inventory after the big box stores have rejected them. Usually, it's only because the box might be dented but the products inside the box are fine and safe to use. Another reason items might be rejected is because a store closed and sent their inventory to the warehouse, or it could just be something as simple as packaging has changed on a product.

Tipped Trailer Co. owner Rachael Gosnell does have plans to move the store to various locations in the future, but for now, you can check out Tipped Trailer Co. at 97 Moosehead Trail in Newport. The store is located next to the credit union. Cash and credit cards are currently accepted for payment, but the store can't take SNAP just yet as they are in the process of being approved by the state.

The store is open Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. You can find updates from Tipped Trailer Co. on Instagram at and Facebook at

I will also be focusing on news and events in Maine along with the topics of New England travel, food, DIY, gardening, and homesteading. I am always looking for stories to tell, so email me anytime @ TheMaineWriter with any news going on in your town, fundraisers in your area, community service projects, education news and stories, businesses you want to recommend, and any of your neighbors or community members that are making a difference so I can shine a spotlight on them. I would especially like to hear more about Maine veterans' events and stories in our communities so I can write more stories about the issues facing Maine veterans. I will always only write the facts and stay neutral never taking political positions in my writing. Sadly too many in the media have turned the news into their opinion pieces rather than sticking to just reporting news.
