Celebrating National Hot Fudge Sundae Day

While there is a national day every day, Monday is National Hot Fudge Sundae Day and it is definitely an excuse to celebrate. Hot fudge sundaes are a sweet treat to enjoy and, best of all, they can be made by anyone. Even those lacking basic culinary skills can make a decent hot fudge sundae. Hot fudge sundaes can also let you be creative and use ice cream flavors other than vanilla or chocolate. You can go crazy with the toppings, or you can be a traditionalist and stick with the hot fudge sauce, whipped cream, and a cherry. Not that anyone needs a reason to enjoy a hot fudge sundae, but why not take advantage of national hot fudge sundae day and either make your own or even better, visit one of the Maine ice cream shops mentioned and get yourself a yummy hot fudge sundae and celebrate.

Big Daddy's Homemade Ice Cream on Rt.1 in Wells is open Monday from 12:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Big Daddy's is a husband and wife team that makes their own ice cream. Some of the flavors available include bourbon maple pecan, Maine blueberry pie, and french vanilla chocolate chip, to name a few.

Big Licks is on 8 West Grand Avenue in Old Orchard Beach and is open Monday from 12:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. Big Licks makes homemade ice cream fresh daily on-site. They offer over eighty flavors and they offer the usual hot fudge sauce but also peanut butter sauce, raspberry sauce, and Maine blueberry sauce for your sundae.

The Saco Scoop is on 209 Main Street and they are open Monday from 2:00- 9:00 p.m. The Saco Scoop offers Shaker Pond ice cream, which is handmade in Alfred, Maine. The Saco Scoop won the title of Maine's longest banana split in 2021 with a banana split that was 120 feet and 3 inches! You will have your choice of over thirty flavors, and there are a few gluten-free flavors as well.

Rococo Ice Cream, located at 6 Spring Street in Kennebunkport, is open Monday from 11:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Rococo has fourteen flavors of artisan ice cream that they slow craft in small batches.

Red's Dairy Freeze is on 167 Cottage Road in South Portland, and they are open Monday from noon until 9:30 p.m. Red's has been family owned since 1952, and they offer plenty of flavors for you to choose from. Red's also offers a brownie sundae on their menu.

Kettle Cove Ice Cream is located at 2 Bowery Beach Road in Cape Elizabeth, and they are open Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Kettle Cove makes their ice cream on site.

The Ice Cream Shoppe of Oakland is at 902 Kennedy Memorial Drive in Oakland, and they are open Monday from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Richards' Dairy Delight is located at 264 Sebago Road in Sebago and is open Monday from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Richards' has been a Maine fixture since 1954, and they are in a great location next to Sebago Lake. Richards offers Maine-made Gifford's ice cream.

The Dairy Corner is on Route1 in Scarborough, and they are open Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. The Dairy Corner offers over seventy ice cream flavors for you to choose from, like Higgins high tide, Pine Point Party, and coconut cheesecake brownie, along with some sugar-free, dairy-free, and vegan flavors.

Holden A Kone is at 602 Main Road in Holden, and they are open Monday from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Holden A Kone serves 30 flavors of Maine's Giffords ice cream along with twenty-eight flavors of soft serve, and they have waffle bowls as an option for your sundaes.

Jordan's Snack Bar on 200 Downeast Highway in Ellsworth is open Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Jordan's also has fun for the kids with a game room and a playground.

Butterfields Ice Cream is located at 946 West Main Street in Dover-Foxcroft, and they are open Monday from 11:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Butterfields has been in business and family-owned since 1950. You will have your choice of thirty-one flavors.

Gifford's Ice Cream has five family-owned and operated ice cream stands around Maine. Gifford's has been making ice cream for five generations. Gifford's offers over fifty flavors, some of which are seasonal. Some of the flavors you will find at Gifford's include fly fishing fudge, Maine blackfly, and muddy boots. The locations are in Auburn at 910 Minot Avenue and are open Monday from noon until 9:00 p.m. Farmington is at 293 Main Street, and they are open Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. The other locations are Bangor at 1109 Broadway, Skowhegan at 307 Madison Avenue, and Waterville at 170 Silver Street. The Bangor, Skowhegan, and Waterville locations are open Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.

Fielder's Choice has six locations around Maine, and all locations are open Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Fielder's Choice is family owned and was featured in Downeast Magazine as "Best of Maine" in 2019 and 2020. The ice cream is made in the store, and there are thirty-plus flavors to choose from. The locations are in Sabattus at 637 Sabattus Road, Brunswick at 271 Bath Road, Manchester at 937 Western Avenue, Old Orchard Beach at 156 Saco Avenue, Auburn at 680 Minot Avenue, and Bangor at 339 Odlin Road.
