Dust off those rainbow flags, Buckeyes. It’s time to channel that Buckeye spirit into a different kind of pride.

After two years of virtual programming, Columbus’s Pride month events will return in-person throughout June.

Pride month is held annually in June, commemorating the Stonewall Uprising of 1969 — a series of demonstrations by the LBGTQ community in New York City in response to a police raid on a gay bar, according to the Library of Congress . This year, there are several events throughout the month that Buckeyes can get involved in on and off campus.

The Diversity, Intercultural and Community Engagement program will hold several workshops in June to educate attendees on LGBTQ identities, terminology and history, according to the university’s event page . These workshops include education and history on the LGBTQ community.

These events require registration, and Ohio State students, faculty and staff can sign up here .

The Student Life Multicultural Center will host a brunch June 17 at the Ohio Union. This brunch is a social event to allow LGBTQ Buckeyes and allies to connect and celebrate their community, according to the event’s registration page .

There are also off-campus events occurring in Columbus throughout June for students to participate in, including pride marches and walks by Stonewall Columbus — an organization that looks to increase visibility of the LGBTQ community in the U.S. — who has held marches since 1981. The organization now welcomes over 700,000 people to their annual pride events, according to its website.

This year, Stonewall Columbus began Pride Month with the City Hall Pride Illumination downtown Wednesday, according to a Pride Month calendar on the organization’s website. The group will also host  a Columbus Pride Community Festival and Resource Fair June 17-18 with over 200 vendors, two performance stages and a dance floor.

Stonewall Columbus will host its 41st annual Pride March on June 18, starting at 10:30 a.m. from the corner of Broad and High Streets. A group of LGBTQ Buckeyes and allies will march in Columbus’ Pride parade, and they will be joined by Alumni Band and Alumni Spirit Squad members, according to the university’s Pride Month calendar. To be a attend as part of the Ohio State group attending the march, register here
