FONTANA, CA, (LAI) – In a significant move to address homelessness, San Bernardino County Supervisor Jesse Armendarez, backed by the Board of Supervisors, has secured $10 million in funding for new homeless housing projects. These initiatives, which aim to provide beds by Summer 2024, target the urgent need for housing solutions within the community, focusing on seniors, veterans, and at-risk youth.

A notable beneficiary of this funding is the CityLink Campus project, receiving $5 million. Located at the intersection of Arrow and Citrus in Fontana, the project is a collaboration between the Water of Life Community Church and the City of Fontana. The CityLink Campus is envisioned as a comprehensive community support and housing facility, set to significantly enhance the provision of essential services, including food distribution, interim housing, childcare, and permanent housing solutions.

Dr. Dan Carroll, Senior Pastor and Founder of Water of Life Community Church, praised the county's investment and Supervisor Armendarez's leadership, highlighting the project's potential to significantly impact the local homeless population positively.

Additionally, the City of Fontana is set to receive $5 million towards converting a motel on Valley Boulevard into interim housing for homeless families and individuals or those at risk of homelessness. This facility, expected to open its doors in July of this year, will offer 60 rooms, each equipped with double beds, and operate around the clock to deliver crucial support services.

Fontana Mayor Acquanetta Warren expressed gratitude for the county's support, emphasizing the grant's role in bolstering the city's efforts to provide necessary housing resources to the community's most vulnerable members.

These grants are part of the initial allocations from the San Bernardino County Housing Development Grant Fund, established by the Board of Supervisors in March 2023 with $20 million from General Fund Discretionary Funds. This initiative aims to encourage the construction of new housing units, including emergency shelters, to increase low-cost housing options for homeless and displaced individuals.

The collaboration between county officials, local governments, and community organizations reflects a unified approach to tackling homelessness, emphasizing the importance of swift and effective action to provide shelter and support to those in need.
