CHARLOTTE, NC- Charlotte Douglas International Airport has made some changes to the entry and exit of the terminal. This alteration was made due to the construction of the Terminal Lobby Expansion, or TLE.
As of Aug 15, passengers are requested to enter the ticketing level through Door 3, as Door 4 will be closed. The new Door 1 (west end passageway) will also be open for passengers who enter the area through the new passenger bridge from Upper Roadway. For baggage claim level, CLT Airport will close Door 4 and passengers can enter from Door 3 and the new Door 1.
CLT Airport will provide signage and staff to guide passengers. The staff will accommodate the increasing number of passengers even in pandemic settings, as the number of passenger traffic slowly returns to near pre-pandemic levels.
From July 1 to July 5, TSA recorded 126.372 passengers in CLT Airport. The increasing number was recorded during Independence Day weekend in addition to the approximately 100.000 passengers a day connect through CLT. In accordance with the increasing number of passengers and considering the summer holiday season, visitors are advised to plan ahead their travels by looking at the graphic to navigate around construction.
These changes were taken due to TLE construction moving into the new phase. The work on the terminal lobby will shift to the east side of the airport, nearest to checkpoint E. TLE is a part of Destination CLT to accommodate passenger growth through 2035. This $608 million project will create more spaces at ticketing and baggage claim levels. The project is expected to be completed in 2025.
