Nebraska basketball was hit with some major news on Monday, as it was announced senior guard Emmanuel Bandoumel is done for the season, per the program. He will have season-ending knee surgery after suffering his injury against Penn State on Saturday

This is a sizable loss for Nebraska basketball. Bandoumel was a starter for the Huskers, and averaged 8.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. One of the highlights of his season was a 14-point effort against Purdue on December 10. He was among the players that played at a high level against the fourth-ranked Boilermakers.

He also was a major asset for the program defensively. Measuring in at 6-foot-4, 187 pounds, he used his arm length to get in the way of passing lanes. The way he played defensively fit Nebraska basketball’s style well. Bandoumel was able to bring a ton of energy on that side of the floor.

This is just another major piece of news for a Nebraska basketball program that has been hit with a ton of injuries. Last week, it was announced senior forward Juwan Gary was out for the rest of the season. Now, this injury is just another big blow for a Nebraska basketball team that does not have a ton of depth. It will be up to some of the younger players to take over Bandoumel’s minutes as his senior leadership will be missed on the floor.

It will be interesting to see how this injury affects the program. The Huskers have younger guards such as Denim Dawson who have shown flashes over the past couple of games. Nevertheless, this is a critical stretch for Nebraska, as they look to finish out the rest of the Big Ten slate. Difficult games are coming up, and the program will need to be all hands on deck, despite the injuries.
