Nebraska football received a commitment from 2023 tight end Ismael Smith Flores on Monday afternoon. Smith Flores made the announcement on Twitter.
He is not ranked in either the 247Sports Composite or regular rankings. Flores has a numerical ranking of 87 on 247Sports.
He had several offers on the table however, including the likes of Iowa, Rutgers, Colorado State, and Indiana. He was recruited to Nebraska by tight ends coach Bob wager. Smith Flores made a visit to the campus on January 20.
This is yet another solid addition for a Nebraska football tight end room that has undergone a bit of a makeover. The program landed former Georgia tight end Arik Gilbert on Thursday, and now they have brought Smith Flores into the fold.
Nebraska football is getting a tight end that measures in at six-foot-five, 210 pounds. He has the ability to play on the outside, and can run after the catch. He also has tremendous athleticism when it comes to jump balls. Smith Flores is able to track the ball, and make the adjustment if necessary. Smith Flores can also make things happen after the catch, and he can use his speed to get that extra yardage. This just gives Nebraska football another weapon that they can turn to.
Currently, the 2023 Nebraska football recruiting class ranks 29th overall and 25th in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. They have built a solid class full of Texas commitments, as well as talented athletes from the state of Nebraska. This is just another weapon that Nebraska football can have offensively.
It will be intriguing to see who else the program lands, as they look to finish out the 2023 class. Matt Rhule and the Nebraska football coaching staff have certainly made their impact felt on this class, and it will be fascinating to see it all come together.
