Nebraska football has been busy on the recruiting trail as of late, and now they are trending with a former Georgia tight end. Arik Gilbert’s name was in the student directory as of Thursday afternoon, and Inside Nebraska's Greg Smith made a prediction that Gilbert would come to Nebraska.
Gilbert originally committed to LSU. He had a notable freshman season, recording 35 receptions for 368 yards and two touchdowns. He transferred to Georgia after the 2021 season, and was a Pro Football Focus Preseason All-American Second-Team pick. Injuries bested him in 2022, and he only appeared in three games, catching two passes for 16 yards and a touchdown.
Gilbert would bring a tremendous presence to the Nebraska football tight end room. As a recruit, he was a five-star caliber player. He was the top tight end in his class, and the top player in his class from the state of Georgia per the 247Sports rankings.
Gilbert measures in at six-foot-five, 255 pounds. One of the things that was noticeable in watching some of his highlights was his ability to hold onto tight- window throws. He uses all of his size in order to jump up and get the football. He succeeds in doing that, and that type of athleticism will help Nebraska in the red zone. He is very clean in his breaks and has the ability to beat his defender cleanly. Gilbert would add a level of dynamic playmaking in the tight end room, as well as a veteran with experience.
Currently, the 2023 Nebraska football recruiting class has nine transfers. MJ Sherman was the most recent transfer, and Nebraska has a chance to add another Georgia Bulldog in this group.
Nebraska football has the opportunity to seal the deal with Gilbert. It could be a busy weekend in Lincoln, as the roster continues to take shape.
