Vice President Kamala Harris's recent attendance at an NCAA Tournament game didn’t go as planned for her, at least that’s the conclusion of several video reports from her appearance. The atmosphere was far from cordial as Harris made her way to Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday, to witness her alma mater, Howard University, compete in the first round of March Madness.

Despite being featured on the video board during the men's basketball game, any applause intended for the Vice President was drowned out by a chorus of boos from the hostile crowd. It was an unwelcoming reception for Harris as the top-seeded University of Kansas Jayhawks routed Howard Bison, where Harris graduated in 1986, in a crushing defeat of 96-68 in the west region matchup.

Harris, along with her husband, second gentleman Doug Emhoff, watched the game from a suite, quietly observing the disappointing performance of her former college team. However, the Vice President's unwavering support for Howard's players was evident as she later visited the locker room to commend them for their outstanding efforts throughout the season, despite the unfortunate outcome.

“You guys are so good, you guys are so good,” Harris said as she met the team and gave them a round of applause. “You played hard, you played to the very last second, you made all us Bisons so, so proud.”

The Vice President had some uplifting words for the Howard Bison players during her visit to their locker room after the game. Harris praised the team's intelligence, discipline, and outstanding performance throughout the game, even though the final score was not in their favor. She noted that their unwavering effort until the last second of the match was a true inspiration and represented the team's unwavering spirit.

Harris's words of encouragement did not stop there. She encouraged the players to hold their heads high and maintain their composure, for their performance on the court had demonstrated what it meant to be a Bison. Her motivational words left a positive impact on the team, helping them to maintain their positive outlook despite the tough loss.

Here’s what the Daily Mail reported:

Kamala Harris was booed on the third day of the NCAA’s March Madness tournament in Des Moines, Iowa, as she watched her alma mater, Howard University, fall to college basketball powerhouse Kansas.

Having graduated from the historically black college and university (HBCU) with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and economics in 1986, Harris showed up in a suite at the Wells Fargo Arena on Thursday to see her Bisons get blown out by the Jayhawks, 68-96, along with her husband and second gentleman, Doug Emhoff.

‘I mean, here we are in Des Moines. And they are a tough time, they work hard, they are so disciplined and it is a joy to watch them here in March Madness,’ Harris said of Howard’s men’s basketball team in the second half. ‘So many of us who are here, we love our school.’
