Exclusive: Ptah Vision CEO Interview

The Build

National Photography Day may have been on August 19th, but it's an absolute must that I highlight the New England rising photographer, Jay "Ptah" Lerouge, CEO of Ptah Vision. This is his first year as a professional photographer and he has already had his work featured in major publications such as All Rap News, 24 Hip Hop, Hip Hop Since 1987, and Tune Loud. Let's see what he has to say about his success so far...

Ptah Vision 2021

What is your background?
I am a Boston native, Haitian American that currently resides in Worcester, MA. I received Catholic education from primary school through junior high school and from there I attended public schools. My first jobs as a teenager were at local grocery stores and then when I was about twenty-one years old I got hired by Polaroid to check the batteries of cameras. At that company, I worked alongside one of my favorite uncles who was a professional photographer. I believe it was then my love for photography kicked in.

Is photography your main job or is it a hobby?
Photography is currently my main job. It has become part of my everyday life. At one point in time, it was a hobby of mine but now I turned my hobby into something I can make income from too. What's better than that? I couldn't ask for anything more at this point in my life when it comes to working.

How did you feel when you found out that your work was featured in a major publication?
I felt great and honored that the recording artist chose my work to use as their feature in the magazines. The recording artist could have gone with a different photographer's work but instead, I was the chosen one. I'm grateful for the recognition.

What type(s) of photography do you shoot?
I currently shoot a wide range of photography. I haven't buckled down to one niche yet but possibly one day I will. I shoot Portrait Photography, Fashion Photography, Commercial Photography, Still Life Photography, Street Photography, and Landscape Photography but my list is being added on as I grow as a photographer and I'm always open to new ideas and concepts.

What is your main focus as a photographer?
My main focus as a photographer is to always capture a Ptah Vision image that makes the eyes and heart of the viewer smile. I want people to know that Ptah took that picture even without my name or logo being plastered on it.

What advice do you have to give to other beginner photographers that may be reading this article?
I would definitely tell beginner photographers not to give up if they are truly passionate about photography because there will be obstacles thrown their way that may not be prepared for. Just keep working hard every day to master your craft. Your time is coming!

Where can you be found out?
Currently, I am working on my website but I can be found on Instagram and Facebook.
