President Joe Biden used alias email accounts when he was Vice President to correspond with his son Hunter's business partners, according to this report.
When Joe Biden was Vice President, he used multiple email addresses, including aliases like Robert Peters and JRB Ware, to communicate with his family and friends. According to a White House official, this was a common practice among senior government officials hoping to thwart hackers, as well as prevent spammers from guessing their address and clogging their inbox.
Recently, House Republicans have demanded the National Archives to hand over more than 5,000 messages from Biden’s vice presidency that relate to those email addresses, thinking those messages might reveal something new.
On Aug. 17, Rep. James Comer, the Kentucky Republican who chairs the House Oversight Committee, wrote to the head of the National Archives, Colleen Shogan, to ask her to give the committee any documents where Joe Biden corresponded using the names Robert Peters, Robin Ware and JRB Ware.
According to this report, the National Archives has retained thousands of emails connected to those accounts in its records from Biden’s time as Vice President. A White House official said that Biden used these alternate names for his email accounts for security reasons, so that hackers and people trying to clog the vice president’s inbox wouldn’t be able to easily guess his email address.
In 2021, The New York Post reported that Joe Biden emailed Hunter under the aliases “Robin Ware,” “Robert L. Peters” and “JRB Ware” between 2014 and 2016, keeping his son abreast of scheduled talks with then-Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Kyiv Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, among other communications.
The New York Post also revealed Hunter Biden’s Rosemont Seneca Partners investment firm traded more than 1,000 emails with Joe Biden’s office during his time as vice president — and hundreds remain hidden because of executive privilege asserted by the White House, documents released by the National Archives show.
The House Oversight Committee sought correspondence between those aliases, Hunter Biden, and two of his former business partners, Eric Schwerin and Devon Archer. Only emails involving the aliases and Hunter Biden are presently public due to the publication of the contents of a laptop he abandoned in a Delaware repair shop.
