"GO WOKE, GO BROKE!" This is the battle cry for conservatives in their war against anything that isn't perfectly in line with their narrative, and it seems they have a new target. The popular restaurant chain Cracker Barrel The very same Cracker Barrel that people love for their rocking chairs, hashbrown casserole, rug board checkers, and "general store" aesthetic gift shop located just inside the front door. Cracker Barrel started in Lebanon, TN, and has always capitalized for years on its down-home, southern country feel, but apparently that's not enough to keep that mob pleased anymore.
This past week, Cracker Barrel released their Pride Month ad campaign, and in a shock to absolutely no one, conservative users on Twitter and Facebook, among other platforms, collectively lost their minds. Some even going so far as saying "Cracker Barrel Has Fallen!" as if it was some holy ground that conservatives must protect at any cost.
Cracker Barrel, which has a troubled history with the LGBTQ community, has since reversed its transphobic policies in 1991. Today, the company has implemented a diversity, equity, and inclusion policy and has scored 80 on the Human Rights Campaign's corporate equality index. In 2019, Cracker Barrel made headlines by refusing to host an event by an anti-gay pastor. These actions demonstrate the company's commitment to promoting equality and rejecting discrimination.
This is just the latest in conservatives on social media trying to fight back against "woke culture" and joins the ranks of companies such as Anheuser-Busch, Target, and Chick-Fil-A (yes, that Chick-Fil-A; you can read more about that by clicking here) that conservatives feel are "succumbing to the radical left" by just showing respect for people that have a history of being marginalized.
But it wasn't all hate headed towards Cracker Barrel for this new ad campaign; many have praised them for showing their inclusivity, and others have resorted to trolling the backlash in humorous memes and tweets poking fun at people freaking out over the "rainbow rocking chair" and that "Cracker Barrel Has Fallen!"
“Love that. I’ve always loved Cracker Barrel. I love them even more now. It’s a small gesture, but you know what? It’s those small gestures of kindness that matter the most. Responding to only positive posts by users, Cracker Barrel has thanked people for their support,” a user said.
“Wonderful news! I’ve avoided Cracker Barrel for as long as I can remember, not knowing if my family was truly welcome. We’ll be sure to stop by our local location soon!” another said.
So, conservatives love to say things like "I wish people weren't so offended," but they are the ones lately that are offended by literally everything that someone does, because the most notable boycotts and "cancellations" have all come from Americans on the right.
