It's a time of celebration and anticipation for the graduating seniors of Riley High School as they participate in the annual "Signing Day" event, marking their next steps after high school.

Principal Shawn Henderson expresses his pride in the accomplishments of this year's graduating class, highlighting their numerous success stories. With over a million dollars in scholarship money awarded to the class of around 160 students, it's evident that this group has achieved remarkable success. Among them are LILY Scholars, sports scholarship recipients, and two Grand Kiwanis winners.

The school reports that these accomplished students will be attending 26 different colleges across the country, with a notable increase in the number of students enrolling at Indiana University South Bend (IUSB) compared to previous years.

Principal Henderson emphasizes the diversity of destinations chosen by the graduates, ranging from California, Texas, and Arizona to prestigious institutions like Notre Dame and Purdue.

The senior girls' soccer team captains express their excitement about continuing to play soccer after graduation, hoping to elevate Riley High School's reputation as a serious soccer school that garners recognition.

In addition to honoring athletes and students heading to college, the event also recognizes seniors entering the military, workforce, or trade fields, allowing them to sign letters of intent that represent their commitments.

The significance of the event is not lost on the attendees, as it provides a platform to appreciate and acknowledge the diverse paths chosen by each individual. It symbolizes the support and unity within the Riley High School community.

Faculty members eagerly anticipate the future achievements of the class of 2023 as they move on from Riley High School. This group of seniors has persevered through the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, with some students overcoming personal obstacles to reach this milestone. Principal Henderson highlights the collective effort from teachers, classmates, and peers, emphasizing the sense of family and support fostered within the school.

The commencement ceremony for Riley High School seniors is scheduled for June 9th at Notre Dame's Compton Family Ice Arena, marking the official end of their high school journey.
