Dollar Store Octopus Craft for Kids

The Activity Mom

Make an octopus for you and a friend with this simple (no sewing needed) craft for kids! Everything you need can be found at your local dollar store which makes this craft inexpensive and so fun to make again and again!

All of these materials can be found at your local dollar store!

  • 2 pairs of socks
  • 1 bag of rice
  • Scissors
  • 2 plastic bags (sandwich size)
  • Hair ties or rubberbands
  • Ribbon
  • Glue Gun
  • Googly Eyes

Fill a sandwich size ziploc bag half way with rice. Zip tight and wrap the empty part of the bag around the full section.

Next, put the bag inside of the sock and mold it to form a ball for the head.

Using a hair tie (or rubber band), wrap it tightly around the sock as many times are you can to keep the rice in place.

Next, cut the sock down the middle so you have halves, then cut the halves in half, then cut them again so you have 8 legs.

Cut a piece of ribbon and tie it around the neck of the octopus.

Use a glue gun to glue on the googly eyes. Make your octopus silly and add more than two googly eyes!
