Kent, OH - The Dean of Kent State University's College of Business Administration, Deborah F. Spake, Ph.D., has been named to the American Marketing Association (AMA) Marketing for Higher Education Special Interest Group (Higher Ed SIG) Lifetime Achievement Award for 2021.

The Higher Ed SIG Lifetime Achievement Award acknowledges a marketing scholar who has made significant contributions to the field of higher education in the marketing discipline.

Spake is dean of Kent State's College of Business Administration and marketing professor. She is a member of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) as the Initial Accreditation Committee, co-founded the AACSB's Seminar for New Associate Deans, and routinely heads or serves on AACSB peer-review teams.

Before this role, she was the president of the Mid American Business Deans Association, as well as past executive director of the Society for Marketing Advances. She has contributed to higher education analysis on topics linked to service learning, student satisfaction, and university branding. Spake's analysis has been distributed in leading academic journals, such as Journal of Service Research, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Brand Management, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Advertising Research, and Journal of Applied Psychology.

Spake is accepting the 2021 award along with Peter M. Black Endowed Faculty Scholar at Babson College, and Victoria L. Crittenden, D.B.A., professor of marketing. The award will be handed to Spake and Crittenden at the AMA Summer Educators' Conference in August.

"I am honored to be recognized along with Dr. Crittenden by the AMA Higher Education Special Interest Group for achievements in higher education leadership and marketing research," Spake said. "The Lifetime Achievement Award was a surprise, and I am pleased to join the ranks of prior winners who have been recognized for their work in this area of our discipline.”
