CLEVELAND, OH — ELS Cleveland, the Intensive English Program on the CWRU campus, is currently looking for host families to welcome a new group of international students from Japan starting from August 2021.

Host families are an essential part of the study abroad experience. They provide international students the opportunity to experience what living in the United States is like, the distinct culture and customs of the families that host them, and also a chance to practice English directly with native speakers.

Additionally, it is an excellent opportunity for host families to be a tourist themselves for a day, or months, by stepping into the shoes of the international student by bringing them to experience and enjoy the activities and tourist attractions of the city of Cleveland.

Many host families would develop deep friendships and bonds with the international students, and it brought memories that will last a lifetime for both the families and the students.

Each host family can take up to three ELS students at a time and receive $675 in compensation for each student per month. It is up to the host families if they want to take the students on just a monthly basis (per one-month intake) or up to the entire duration of the student’s enrollment at ELS.

To find more information on becoming a host family for the international students or experiencing the joy of intercultural exchange, you can call the ELS center at 216-368-2716, or you can also email the Center Director, Leanna Ross, at LROSS@ELS.EDU.
