AKRON, OH — The Summit Metro Parks Foundation has partnered with Pav's Creamery and Acme Fresh Market to celebrate the park district’s centennial anniversary in 2021.

The partnership results in a new ice cream flavor that will be made, sold and available at Summit Metro Parks. The new ice cream flavor is Salted Maple Pecan, with emphasis on the “S-M-P”.

“Nothing says summer like ice cream. This custom, park-inspired, SMP flavor is a tasty way to celebrate the SMP Centennial. We want to bring some of the parks to your taste buds, and the project benefits the Summit Metro Parks Foundation thanks to our partners, Acme Fresh Market and Pav’s Creamery,” said the chief of Philanthropy at Summit Metro Parks, Jen M. Harvey.

Consumers of the new frozen dessert can expect to enjoy a salted caramel ice cream base with swirls of maple syrup, as well as pecans.

The ice cream flavor represents the park district through the maple syrup, with the sugar maple emblematic of many forested areas of Summit Metro Park and a key feature of the park district’s logo. This limited edition will be available at Pav’s and Acme Fresh Market locations.

"That does look pretty good I guess I'm going back to acme for that ice cream," said Glen Klingenberger in the comment section on SMP's post.

Meanwhile, Summit Metro Park was established in 1921, it manages over 14,000 acres throughout 16 parks, a number of conservation areas and over 150 miles of trails, including 22 miles of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail. Previously, annual attendance in 2020 was 6 million visits.
