AKRON — The Akron Marathon Race Series 8k & 1 Mile, presented by Summa Health and the National Interstate, will be kicking off on Saturday, June 26.
The course will start at 361 South Union Street just outside the InfoCision Stadium and finish at 375 E. Exchange Street, inside InfoCision Stadium on Summa Field.
The marathon will be divided into 10 waves, which will have 200 participants per wave. Each participant will have a designated wave based on their pace selected during registration. Each wave will be walked up to the start line, held for 45 seconds, and has its own starting commands.
Both the 8k and 1-mile courses are certified USATF sanctioned courses. Both will run through the new Main St and circle back to the original track. Participants will run on paved asphalt and concrete streets.
As the city of Akron slowly returns to normalcy, the Akron Marathon Race Series has updated its guidelines in accordance with the CDC guidance.
“While it is exciting to return to a sense of normalcy at our events, the health and safety of our participants and volunteers remain our top priority,” states Anne Bitong, president and CEO of the Akron Marathon. “We will move forward with a hybrid approach, keeping several mitigation strategies in place and encouraging everyone who attends our events to be mindful and respectful of others’ personal space.”
The National Interstate 8k and 1 Mile is the first race in this year’s series, with the Goodyear Half Marathon and 10k coming on August 14, Kids Fun Run presented by Akron Children’s Hospital on September 24, and the FirstEnergy Akron Marathon, Half Marathon and Team Relay on September 25.
