Summer is coming! Warmer days here! It’s time to pack up your tent, lace up those hiking boots, and let’s go camping at the best places near Cleveland!

You don’t have a list of places to go yet? Here we have three recommendations to have perfect summertime places for your camping activity.

1. Ottawa Overlook Backcountry Site

Cuyahoga Valley National Park, as strange as it may appear, lacks actual campgrounds. The Ottawa Overlook Backcountry Site is the only place to camp within Cuyahoga Valley National Park truly.

There are three tent sites here that can accommodate four people each. Brecksville Reservation (one of the Cleveland Metroparks that overlaps with Cuyahoga Valley National Park) runs the three sites. It is located off of the Buckeye Trail.

The Ottawa Point Picnic Area has potable water and a bathroom about a quarter-mile from the campsite.

Stays are limited to one night only. Visitors can set up their tent at 3 p.m.

Location: Buckeye Trail, Brecksville Reservation, Brecksville

2. Lake Erie Bluffs

If you’re looking for a camping spot near Cleveland with views over Lake Erie, Lake Erie Bluffs is the place to go!

About 35 minutes from downtown Cleveland, this lovely area is well known for its 50-foot coastal observation tower, gorgeous beach, beautiful wildflowers, and stunning views over Lake Erie.

Lake Erie Bluffs has two campsites, about 0.25 and 0.65 miles from the Shoreline Trail.

These campsites do not have water or electricity, but there are restrooms next to the Lane Road parking lot.

Location: 3301 Lane Rd, Perry Township

3. Punderson State Park

Located about 45 minutes from downtown Cleveland, this state park offers various camping options, including RV and tent camping.

This state park promotes the remains of the last glacier that swept across Ohio. Punderson Lake is an excellent location for kayaking, fishing, and other activities.

The campground has 155 20-amp electric sites, 15 non-electric sites, and even 20 full hook-up sites for 30-/50-amp electric, water, and sewer. Unfortunately, water and sewer are available in winter.

Location: 11755 Kinsman Rd, Newbury

Transform your summer break family vacation and explore a bunch of activities on your next campout. Your local park can be the best site for your new adventures!
