After two years of cancelations, the Dallas St. Patrick’s Day parade returns Saturday, March 12. The pandemic shut it down in 2020 and 2021, but not this year. The parade starts at 11 am on Blackwell at Greenville Ave and continues for a two-mile stretch ending on SMU Blvd at 2 pm.

The food, fun, and festivities will keep going long after the parade is over.

What to expect this year

The event will host over 90 floats and 1700 participants. It usually attracts over 125,000 people and “has become the largest St. Patrick’s Day parade in the Southwest,” according to the travel website, Rove. Expect even more people to line lower Greenville Ave this year because of the two-year gap since Dallas' last St. Patrick's Day parade.

After the parade, the jubilation continues with a Toadies rock band concert and block party at Energy Square. Also, neighborhood restaurants, bars, food trucks, and more will participate in the day and nighttime festivities.

Will you put green on and join the St. Patrick’s Day fun?

The tradition of wearing green or risk getting pinched is all in fun. The Irish Central website explains, “As the tradition goes, wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day makes you invisible to the leprechauns. They will pinch you as soon as you come upon their radar if you don’t wear green.”

Folklore is part of what makes it enjoyable. Will you adorn yourself in green or act like a leprechaun and pinch those who aren’t wearing the color of the day?

41 is a big part of this year's celebration

This year marks the 41st St. Patrick’s Day parade in the city. Also, Dallas’ beloved #41, Dirk Nowitzki, will serve as Grand Marshal for the event. The Dallas Mavericks is a major sponsor.

You can get more information about the 2022 Dallas Mavs St. Patrick’s Day parade and festival from the official website. It includes exhibitor and float applications. Make plans to come and enjoy the March 12 celebration.
