As we all know, Jaden Smith (the son of Will Smith) is an American actor, singer, rapper, songwriter, and philanthropist. A couple of years ago, to help celebrate his 21st birthday, Jaden launched the I Love You Restaurant, located in Los Angeles, California.
For now, his restaurant is a vegan food truck initiative that will help with the food insecurity problem for the homeless living in Los Angeles. Even if you are not homeless, you can still join, but you might want to pay a little money to help “pay it forward” for the people before and after you.
There’s also a plan in the works to make the rolling truck into a proper restaurant. For now though, just watch out for a giant truck that has the giant letters “I Love You Restaurant” on it. It's not hard to miss.
The truck has been making its rounds around Los Angeles and many other cities across America. Even if you don't live in Los Angeles, you might still see the truck in and around your area. You just never know.
According to Jaden Smith’s website:
“Our mission is to spread love to communities experiencing food and/or housing insecurity by offering water along with fresh, high-quality, and delicious sustainable meal options.”
If we take a look at the site, we are presented with this image:
It seems like a great initiative with some amazing ideas.
So far, it looks like the vegan meals from Jaden Smith have helped over 8000 residents living in Los Angeles’ Skid Row area recently. The efforts for the I Love You Restaurant have also helped out some at-risk residents living in Harlem, New York City.
“[We were] not able to actually get our food truck down to Skid Row and physically hand it out to people for obvious reasons. You’re thinking about everything happening with COVID-19 and people having to stay home and all that stuff. Well, if you’re homeless, you can’t stay home… So we’ve been donating… everything that we can… vegan food, masks, clothes, hand sanitizer, and all different types of things.”
From the sounds of it, world events might have affected how the food was delivered, but it was still appreciated, and many people got to enjoy a great and healthy meal.
It was also not just food that was sent to people, but also clothes, masks, foods, and other essential items. While there is a long way to go with the vegan restaurant, Jaden is doing a great job with using his celebrity status to help others in need.
Jaden also has plans to set up a more permanent version of the restaurant that doesn’t roll around. In other words, there might be a proper restaurant building in the works. With these plans on the horizon, Jaden is probably optimistic and proud.
As mentioned earlier, you don’t necessarily have to be homeless to participate in this rolling restaurant, but it is strongly recommended that you provide some kind of money to help subsidize the cost of meals.
Just think of it as paying it forward — but only if you can. If you cannot, it's okay.
As Jaden reported:
“It’s for homeless people to get free food, but if you’re not homeless…you have to pay…so that you can pay for the person behind you.”
It’s great that Jaden Smith has such a cool vegan restaurant. It’s also an amazing initiative for those who are struggling to make ends meet, such as the people of Los Angeles. More and more communities can benefit from the restaurant, especially in the years to come.
