When I realized that I was completely different from other people who had normal functioning bodies, everything changed for me. I had to live differently than the average person. Eventually, I felt okay with that because I knew my life was going to change. I was more informed about my health than many others. Most people don’t consider the little things because they don’t impact their health. They will eventually realize what a poor job they have done maintaining their health when they are hit with an acute situation they cannot reverse. This is when they usually start taking their health more seriously, but they also usually don’t have the answers. I learned a lot from my autoimmune conditions. I had three of them that almost killed me. I didn’t know what to do, and the doctors were not very helpful when it came to learning about how I could reverse my situation and still continue living. They gave me a lot of conventional advice without going in-depth about the problem. The only way I could reverse all three conditions was by becoming my own advocate. I was in a hopeless situation, living with symptoms most people didn’t understand. I was fighting a battle every day just to feel healthy, and no one even knew it. It was tough for me to keep going with a disability, but I was determined to find answers for my condition.
Here’s how micro-tuning improved my health:
Blood sugar matters, even without diabetes
Many people are reluctant to measure their blood sugar if they don’t have diabetes. I thought this way too because I thought, why bother when it is in the normal range? Then, I realized the importance of understanding your blood sugar levels throughout the day and their impact on your health. I noticed how blood sugar spikes caused all sorts of symptoms, like fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, and little to no energy or motivation. I didn’t think blood sugar imbalances and spikes could cause all these symptoms. Many doctors told me anything can cause anything—which is so vague. When I started understanding how my blood sugar was impacted by what I ate throughout the day, it made a lot of sense that the spikes could cause all those symptoms. Not to mention, I was often insulin resistant, too. I had no idea this was the culprit behind all the weight I gained with my autoimmune conditions. Many of us don’t look at these simple things when we think of our overall health. We look at the diseases for what they are. When I started to micro-tune my diet and do simple things like walking after meals, it made a world of difference on my health. I also only had carbs in the morning, and this would set the pace for the rest of the day. All these little things made such a big difference when it came to my energy levels.
Fatigue tells you a lot
Many people feel tired and bored all the time. They don’t know where these symptoms are coming from, and they keep going. Their body is compensating for things it lacks and trying to function, but no one is listening and they keep going. Many problems begin because it creates a big mess with many symptoms when we keep going, and we eventually have to deal with the disease state. I have a Type A personality that forced me to keep going, no matter what life threw at me. I was damaging my body by not paying attention to the little things. There were so many lacking nutrients along with the imbalances that caused many of my symptoms. The true root cause was, in fact, a lot of nutrients that were not being digested properly due to my gut problems. I had to learn how to get rid of many infections to get my gut to function properly.
Don’t regret taking blood tests
Blood tests can shed light on many different factors that may be off or things you haven’t even thought about. Many infections and bacteria overgrowth cause our symptoms, but we wouldn’t know we had them until we take blood tests—a great indicator of what may be wrong. I have used blood tests to understand my imbalances and how I could fix them to feel truly healthy again. The doctors have not been as enlightening as the blood tests have in understanding how to fix the issues from within. Our bodies give us many clues about what may be off, but we just look past them and keep living the way we want. For example, for the longest time, I thought I was eating clean, but when I realized that my clean eating was causing glucose spikes, why I was not feeling my best finally made sense. I would have a mid-day crash and feel tired throughout the day, but I forced myself to keep going. This is where I went wrong because I didn’t pause to understand what may be causing these symptoms or what may be off in my body. I thought things would eventually fix themselves, but it didn’t happen that way.
I hope you find this empowering because YOU are in control of your health and wellbeing. You have the power within yourself to change your situation, even during times when you feel powerless. Doctors can give their two cents, but I found all the answers within and then applied them to fix my health.
