(Castle Rock, CO) Douglas County schools will continue to start in early August and end before Memorial Day after more than 14,000 parents, staff, students, and community members responded to a survey with four potential options.

Matt Reynolds, learning services officer, said Calendar A was the most popular choice, while Calendar C came second. Calendar A has an earlier start date than Calendar C and most closely resembles the current schedule.

Reynolds said students felt strongly about ending the Fall term before Winter break, so they didn’t take final exams in January. Teachers and parents also preferred starting earlier in August and ending in May.

According to a district email, “all DCSD schools will follow these conventional calendars, with the following exceptions: Daniel C. Oakes High School, Eagle Academy, Renaissance Elementary Magnet School, and DCSD Charter Schools. If your child attends one of these schools, please check in with that school for their calendars.”

Survey results and the academic calendars are available on the district website.
