(Castle Rock, CO) DougCo superintendent Erin Kane announced in an email to DougCo parents that Danny Winsor will fill the newly-created role of Assistant Superintendent of School Leadership.

After the board fired Corey Wise in February, Windsor and Kane were the two finalists for the superintendent position.

Kane said, “Danny and I have worked closely together for many years, and I am confident that his leadership, commitment to academic success, and student-centered decision-making will be very beneficial to every one of our schools and students.”

According to the district, “the Assistant Superintendent will oversee the operation of our schools, including the Executive Directors of Schools (EDOS). This position replaces the Deputy Superintendent role currently filled by Andy Abner, who is returning to lead Rock Canyon High School next year.”

Winsor community favorite for superintendent

As the only other finalist for the superintendent position, Winsor won the overwhelming favor of community members according to a CORA request by the advocacy group DougCo Collective.

This led to accusations that the four majority board members, Mike Peterson, Becky Myers, Christy Williams, and Kaylee Winegar, didn’t consider community input and had already chosen Kane.

Westword reported the new board members contacted Kane about her interest in the position before they fired Wise.

The board voted 4:3 in favor of Kane on March 22.

About Danny Winsor

Winsor starts immediately. He previously served as the district’s Executive Director of Schools for the Parker Region. He also oversaw the Choice Programming Department and post-secondary readiness programs.

Winsor has 13 years of experience in the DougCo school district and won DCSD Administrator of the Year for 2018.
