The wild, wild west returns as Nicolas Cage stars as a cold-blooded gunslinging, dangerous, emotionless outlaw killer Mercantile store owner; who avenges his murdered wife by hunting down and killing the suspects that committed her murder in his first Western film, 'The Old Way.' The film was released in theaters on January 6 and is now available on VOD for streaming on YouTube, Apple TV, Amazon Prime, etc.

The film is directed by Brett Donowho. The cast includes its star Nicolas Cage as Colton Briggs, and co-stars young up and coming actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong who plays Nicolas's character Colton Briggs's 12-year-old daughter Brooke, Kerry Knuppe, (Ruth Briggs, Colton's wife), Clint Howard (Eustice) Noah Le Gros (James McCallister) and Dean Armstrong (Clark).

Although the beginning of the film starts out all quiet on the Western front as a slow-burn suspense thriller gunslinger, it gradually turns the corner and kicks it up a notch once the film progresses full-speed ahead to suspense and action.

The film was shot on location in Montana. The crew members including Nicolas Cage complained about the same armorer for the film 'Rust' Hannah Gutierrez-Reed for the handling of the firearms and and caused Nicolas to walk off the set. No one was hurt.

On a separate note, Gutierrez-Reed's negligence along with Alec Baldwin and a producer of 'Rust' caused the death of cinematographer, Haylena Hutchins accidental death. They were recently charged for involuntary manslaughter. A very 'Rusty' situation and no one can deny or confirm if that film will ever see the light of day in the theaters or on VOD.

Without any huge spoilers, Here's the film trailer on YouTube:

The film hosted an invitation-only special screening followed by a Q&A with the director Brett Donowho on January 18 held at the Rustic Theatre in Idyllwild, California and hosted by the Idyllwild Arts Academy here:

Nicolas Cage looks like a true Western movie star here. For his first-ever Western film, The role of Colton Briggs fits him perfectly. Ride 'em cowboy, ye haw! His upcoming film, "Butchers Crossing" also has a Western theme. It premiered at TIFF in September 2022.

Rotten Tomatoes rated this film 35%. I rate this film a B. I thought Nicolas Cage acted very well in this film and deserves high marks for his first try on a Western genre. He is also very stunningly sexy and handsome here. Congratulations...Bravo!
