According to a press release issued on January 26, 2022, current Stroud Township Supervisor Jennifer Shukaitis announced that she plans to run for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives' new 189th district.
In the release, it states:
”Stroud Township Supervisor Jennifer Shukaitis has announced her candidacy for the New 189th District of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
Granddaughter of former Monroe County Commissioner Nancy Shukaitis, Stroud Township Supervisor Jennifer Shukaitis currently serves on the Brodhead Watershed Association, Stroud Regional Open Space and Recreation Commission, and the Act 137 Monroe County Housing Authority Board. She was recently honored by the Pennsylvania Federation of Democratic Women as an Outstanding Elected Democratic Woman.
A graduate of East Stroudsburg High School, Shukaitis holds a Bachelor’s Degree from East Stroudsburg University and a Master’s Degree from Colorado State University. She is passionate about working toward a future with opportunities for everyone including sustainable jobs, affordable living and healthy lifestyles in the natural beauty of the Pocono Mountains. Her primary focus in the Pennsylvania House will be on school tax reform, economic development, a secure infrastructure, and environmental preservation.“
The preliminary legislative map of the new 189th district includes Delaware Water Gap Borough, East Stroudsburg Borough, Middle Smithfield East, Smithfield Township, Stroud Township 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and Stroudsburg Borough in Monroe County as well as Delaware 1 and Lehman Township in Pike County.
