Denver Weather: Snow and rain to hit Denver Friday through Sunday, impact weekend travel

(DENVER, Colo.) Snow is expected to begin falling in Denver Friday afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Boulder predicts rain showers to hit the city before 5 p.m., followed by more rain and snow showers. The high-temperature Friday will reach near 42. 

Expect east winds around 10 mph. Winds could gust as high as 18 mph. 

There is a 100% chance of precipitation Friday, with little or no snow accumulation anticipated.

winter storm warning will be in effect from 4 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday due to anticipated heavy snow.

There will also be a freeze warning in effect from 9 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Saturday as sub-freezing temperatures as low as 26 are expected.

More rain and snow showers are expected to fall in Denver Friday evening, becoming all snow after 11 p.m. Snow may be heavy at times.

The weather service predicts the low-temperature Friday evening to drop to around 29. Expect north winds at 5 to 10 mph. Gusts might reach as high as 15 mph.

There is a 100% chance of precipitation, with a new snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Looking Ahead: More snow and rain, thunder possible Saturday

Saturday's weather forecast calls for more snow showers before 11 a.m.

Rain and snow showers will follow morning snow, with some thunder also possible. The high-temperature Saturday will reach near 42.

Anticipate east to northeast winds at 5 to 8 mph to become calm. There is an 80% chance of precipitation. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches may occur.

More rain will hit the city before 1 a.m., followed by a slight chance of rain and snow showers. Thunder is also likely, with partly cloudy skies and a low temperature near 30.

South winds at 3 to 7 mph will persist throughout the evening. There is a 30% chance of precipitation, with little to no snow accumulation expected.

Sunday will also be wet, with showers expected after noon. The skies will clear up slightly while the high temperature is set to reach near 54. Expect southeast winds at 6 to 8 mph.

There is another chance of showers and thunderstorms Sunday evening, with mostly cloudy skies and a low near 39. There will be a 40% chance of precipitation.
