In case you weren’t aware, Joseph’s by the Sea, considered one of the best seafood restaurants in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, had a fire early Monday morning, 19 July, before they opened.

The owners said they would re-open. According to their Facebook Page, Scott McCrum said, “We are so very thankful the building was vacant at the time, and no one was harmed. We are also thankful to the Old Orchard Beach Fire Department for their quick response and fast action to contain the fire. Due to extensive water and smoke damage, we will unfortunately be closed until further notice.”

Firefighters spent nearly three and a half hours bringing the blaze under control. Thankfully, no one was inside when the fire broke out, and the fire department kept the blaze under control.

The owner also said they would post updates about their progress toward re-opening on their Facebook Page, and “We’ll miss everyone and can’t wait to open our doors once again.”

It is highly likely that everyone in OOB will miss them too, as will the returning tourists who make it a habit of getting their fill of seafood at this iconic Old Orchard Beach restaurant.

Before the fire, Trip Advisor rated Joseph’s by the Sea as the top seafood restaurant in OOB, and for a good reason. Tourists and locals alike would wait for a table for hours, if necessary.

So, where can you get great seafood while Joseph’s by the Sea rebuilds? We, of course, have a few suggestions.

Great Old Orchard Beach seafood restaurants

If the fire at Joseph’s by the Sea spoiled your dinner plans, here are a few places to go instead, not in any particular order. These are just a few of the great seafood restaurants available in OOB that people talk about frequently.

Lobster Claw Pound & Restaurant

The Lobster Claw Pound & Restaurant, owned and operated by the Deangelo family for nearly 50 years, is located at 41 Ocean Park Road and Norman Street in Saco, Maine.

Check here for daily specials. My suggestion would be to get the Fried combo for $23.95. It's a huge platter of seafood that you might not finish if you’re not a big eater. “All dinners include house coleslaw, waffle fries, a roll & butter.”
